why do we do pitru tarpanam only once every month.
that is bcoz, if our ancestors are in pitru loka which is said to be backside of the moon which we can never see, 1 month on earth is equal to 1 day in pitru lokha . i.e krishna paksha is a period of 15 days and shukla paksha is another 15 days.
so we keep food on every day for our ancestors which is 1 month on our loka -- bhuloka.
as per Sanathana Darma yogi eats once a day, bhogi 2 times, and rogi 3 times. so thinking that our ancestors are yogis we keep food for 1 time everyday as per their place or lokha, which is 1 month for us.
This time is also mentioned in srimad bhagavatam 3-11-11
